MEC Mining appoints new East Coast Australia GM  

Experienced resources leader Caoilin Chestnutt has been appointed as General Manager of MEC Mining’s Australian East Coast operations.

Ms Chestnutt studied Earth Sciences at the world-renowned Trinity College, Dublin, and in the next 25 years gained experience across multiple commodities throughout the world.

Mr Catania, MEC Mining CEO, said Ms Chestnutt would be an asset to MEC Mining’s expanding business, which now has offices in Brisbane, Perth and a global presence in Europe, Africa and South-East Asia.

“MEC Mining is growing rapidly as demand for our technical and advisory services increase, and Caoilin’s expertise will lead our expanding East Coast Australia teams with a steady hand. We’re excited to welcome her.”

Caoilin has held leadership roles across Xstrata (now Glencore), Anglo American, BHP and Arrow Energy in both technical and commercial disciplines. She was the Resources Investment Commissioner for the Queensland Government and most recently, was head of Business Development at BHP.

She has been a finalist in the Women in Industry Awards twice and was the winner of the QRC/WIMARQ Exceptional Woman in Exploration Award.

Caoilin brings with her a wealth of experience working across multiple key commodities in strategy, due diligence, capital raising, resource exploration and development and Mergers & Acquisitions, strengthening our Advisory team.

It was a full house at the sold out breakfast event, as we welcomed our guest speakers onto the panel:

MEC’s Maria Joyce makes top 100 global list

Although we’d expect nothing less of our MEC Mining powerhouse Maria Joyce, we’re delighted to share that she has been named one of the world’s top 100 women in mining.

Non-profit UK organisation Women in Mining (WIM) has named Maria, MEC’s General Manager – Strategy and Business Development, as one of its ‘Top 100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining’. Their search extended across the entire mining sector, including related and supporting industries, and all roles, ‘from mine to office, from explorers to C-Suite, from finance to compliance and ESG to government/non-government agencies’.

MEC’s Maria Joyce set to judge 2018 Women in Resources National Awards

MEC’s Maria Joyce is honoured to be judging 2018’s Women in Resources National Awards (WIRNA), to be held at Parliament House in Canberra on 13 September.

In her capacity as a judge, Maria will represent both Women in Mining and Resources Queensland (WIMARQ), of which she is Committee Chair, and MEC Mining, where she is General Manager – Strategy and Business Development.

Resources sector mentors light the way for future women leaders

MEC is proud to be a part of this year’s Queensland Resources Council (QRC) and Women in Mining and Resources Queensland (WIMARQ) mentoring program.

High-achieving women from the resources sector in Queensland will learn from high-flyers in the industry over four months of career guidance, which kicked off on 8 June 2018.

Balancing Feminine and Masculine Energy: Key topic at MEC Mining’s Women in Mining breakfast

MEC Mining hosted a Women in Mining and Queensland (WIMARQ) breakfast with leadership consultant and executive coach Rebecca Livesey from Achieve-Lead-Succeed on Thursday 24 May at Alchemy Bar and Restaurant in Brisbane.

Over 50 females from the resources sector attended the breakfast forum to hear about “Captivating Leadership: Balancing Masculine and Feminine energy in leadership regardless of gender”.

MEC’s Maria Joyce discusses change leadership at Women in Engineering Leadership Summit

Maria Joyce, General Manager – Strategy and Business Development at MEC Mining, will give the opening keynote case study at the 7th Women in Engineering Leadership Summit, presented by Liquid Learning. MEC becomes an endorsed employer for women with WORK180

We’re pleased to share the news that we’ve joined other high-profile Australian companies as a WORK180 (previously known as DCC Jobs) endorsed employer for women.

WORK180 is a job platform where employers are pre-screened to ensure they support women’s careers. Founded by Gemma Lloyd and Valeria Ignatieva, WORK180 only advertises jobs for companies that meet criteria on aspects such as paid parental leave, pay equity and flexible working.
