MEC’s Maria Joyce discusses change leadership at Women in Engineering Leadership Summit

Maria Joyce, General Manager – Strategy and Business Development at MEC, will give the opening keynote case study at the 7th Women in Engineering Leadership Summit, presented by Liquid Learning. The theme for this year’s summit, held at the Brisbane Marriott Hotel from 28 May to 1 June 2018, is ‘Engineer Your Success’.

Maria is among a number of prominent industry leaders, including representatives from Thales, BHP, Telstra, Caltex, Fulton Hogan and more, who will address the summit.

The event, which takes place over five days of workshops, talks and panel discussions, is for women at all stages of their engineering careers, from aspiring leaders to current leaders. It engages with the fact that women continue to be significantly under-represented in engineering, particularly at management and executive levels, despite gender diversity initiatives.

Factors contributing to this gender disparity include:

  • unconscious bias
  • levels of flexibility in the workplace
  • managing stakeholder relationships.

Those attending the summit will have the chance to network and to listen to the personal stories of inspiring leaders.

The event aims to arm women with the tools that they need to:

  • be influential communicators
  • define their authentic value
  • overcome career challenges
  • build resilience.

Maria’s keynote address, ‘Supercharging your change leadership’, will focus on particularly difficult aspects of leadership – managing expectations, communicating benefits and overcoming resistance during times of organisational change. Maria will discuss her experiences in this area, as well as guiding principles for change leadership.
