MEC Mining Champions Women in Mining and Resources

MEC Mining was pleased to host this month’s Women in Mining and Resources Queensland (WIMARQ) networking event.

It was a full house at the sold out breakfast event, as we welcomed our guest speakers onto the panel:

  1. Catherine Shooter – Discipline Engineering Manager at BHP,
  2. Loren Ager – Principal of Learning & Development at MEC Mining, and
  3. Negin Beaton – Development and Communications Coordinator at the University of Queensland and Senior Mining Engineer at MEC Mining.

The presentations included insights and stories from the mining careers of these inspiring women. The ensuing Q&A session encouraged participants to engage in discussions around shared experiences and ways to connect, nurture and support women to achieve their goals within the Queensland energy and resources industries.

WIMARQ is a group of volunteers who organise opportunities for the mentoring, support and encouragement to women who are working in, studying for or taking a break from the minerals and energy sectors. MEC Mining is a proud supporter of WIMARQ, as they continue to champion gender diversity and raise awareness about gender diversity issues, strategies and statistics through the annual Resources Awards for Women.

We would like to extend our gratitude to Caroline Morrissey and the WIMARQ team for the opportunity to host this month’s networking event. Many thanks to everyone who attended, contributed to the conversation and made the breakfast such an enjoyable and interesting event.
