Women on Boards event to address gender parity in infrastructure, construction and resources

MEC’s Maria Joyce will join the panel at the Women on Boards initiative infrastructure, construction & resources focus event on 15 March at Deloitte’s Brisbane office.

In her capacity as Women in Mining and Resources Queensland (WIMARQ) Committee Chair, Maria, alongside other representatives from the infrastructure, construction and resources sectors, will be exploring opportunities to increase the number of women on boards.

The event relates to the Queensland Government’s Women on Boards initiative, working towards gender parity across Queensland boards. The targets for Queensland Government bodies to be achieved by 2020 are:

  • 50% of all new board appointees to Queensland Government bodies must be women.
  • 50% representation of women on the boards of Queensland Government bodies.

Hosted by Deloitte on behalf of the Queensland Government Office for Women, this event aims to bring together government representatives, board members, recruiters, professional organisations and candidates to help women seeking board opportunities in infrastructure, construction and resources.

Maria Joyce will join other panel members, including:

  • Kerryn Newton – Directors Australia
  • Julie Beeby – Powerlink Queensland
  • Jacqui Walters – Building Queensland
  • Carol Lewis – Boyden Recruitment.

They’ll share success stories where positive outcomes have been achieved through board diversity and discuss other opportunities to increase the number of women in boards. The event provides a platform for board members, recruiters, professional organisations and candidates to network and lead the way in achieving gender parity.
