MEC’s Maria Joyce set to judge 2018 Women in Resources National Awards

MEC’s Maria Joyce is honoured to be judging 2018’s Women in Resources National Awards (WIRNA), to be held at Parliament House in Canberra on 13 September.

In her capacity as a judge, Maria will represent both Women in Mining and Resources Queensland (WIMARQ), of which she is Committee Chair, and MEC Mining, where she is General Manager – Strategy and Business Development.

Now in their fifth year, the awards celebrate the success of women, gender diversity champions and companies working to enhance diversity and inclusion across Australia’s resources workforce. Most states and the Northern Territory host local Women in Resources Awards as a precursor to the national awards. Category winners in each state then become finalists in the Women in Resources National Awards.

By promoting individual achievement and company commitment the awards raise awareness of the exciting career opportunities available for women in the resources sector.

Tickets are available now for the event, which is hosted this year by the Minerals Council of Australia (MCA).

Maria Joyce: diversity advocate

An award-winning business leader and a passionate advocate for diversity in her industry, Maria is enthusiastic about recognising the role of women in the resources sector.

“I’m passionate about challenging the status quo and shifting entrenched views in my industry and beyond,” she says. “I believe in championing the success of women and other minority groups in resources so that we can move towards a more balanced, inclusive future. Women have a great deal to offer the sector, which is ultimately strengthened by their participation.”

“These awards are about maintaining focus on gender parity and recognising some of the extraordinary achievements of women across Australia – and the groups and companies who are supporting them.”
