New General Manager Operations appointed as MEC Mining focuses on growth

MEC Mining has promoted its Manager of Consulting Services, Christofer Catania, into the role of General Manager Operations as the company expands its outlook. The Brisbane-based mining consultancy has recently announced a suite of strategic changes aimed at growing MEC’s service offering to clients domestically and internationally.

Mr Catania and his leadership team will manage the company’s workforce of over 40 mining engineers and oversee all operational aspects of the business, collaborating with clients across Australia and internationally in Papua New Guinea, Asia, Europe and Africa.

According to MEC Non-Executive Director Simon Cohn, “This promotion recognises both Chris’s high level of performance over his eight years at MEC, as well as his industry experience both domestically and internationally.”

“Most recently, Chris has been an important part of MEC’s growth, successfully leading our consulting group as Manager Consulting Services over the past two years,” said Mr Cohn.

A mining engineer with over 12 years’ experience working across commodities including zinc, iron ore, copper, gold, iron sands and coal, Mr Catania has a high level of technical and operational expertise. His career has seen him lead technical and operational teams domestically and internationally, with a solid track record in assisting companies in feasibility studies through to operations.

MEC’s incumbent General Manager Operations, David Plowman, will move into the role of General Manager Growth. The new role will initially entail ensuring the success of MEC’s current portfolio of growth projects and then ultimately focus on evaluating and developing the next stage of the business’s growth.

This latest evolution in MEC’s management team comes as the company separates its existing corporate advisory services into a standalone subsidiary of the MEC Mining group. Advising mining clients globally, the business will specialize in the strategic management and evaluation of resources projects. Its services will include project evaluation, asset management and operational improvement for mining industry clients.

“As we grow, we will continue to deliver the high level of service that our clients have come to expect,” said Mr Cohn.
