After an exciting year of innovation and strategic change in 2019, MEC is delighted to be the recipient of Australia’s Mining Monthly (AMM), Consultant of the Year award. The AMM is widely acknowledged as one of the most authoritative mining magazines produced in the Asia Pacific region and a unique source of industry news and information. This award reflects industry recognition of the dynamic work being done by MEC and a boost for the company as we embark on further developments and expansion in the coming year.
The MEC Graduate Program provides our Graduate Mining Engineers with a wide range of professional development tools and industry opportunities. The program also enables graduates to develop a solid foundation and prepare themselves for their journey from Graduate Engineer to emerging professional and beyond.
Nicholas Luff has been assisting Glencore’s Clermont Open Cut operation in a short-term planning team. During this time, Nicholas has learnt and assisted in the dig and dump design process as well as scheduling loading equipment to follow a weekly plan. He has also assisted in running weekly planning meetings that implement his designs and schedule as well as weekly reconciliation meetings to measure conformance to plan.
MEC officially launched to the WA market on Friday 22nd November with the opening of the Perth office. Over 80 members of the mining community attended the cocktail party at the Flour Factory hosted by General Manager Operations, Christofer Catania and Technical Service Manager, Erin Sweeney.
Chris welcomed guests and highlighted MEC's expansion into Western Australia.
There are many scenarios that might result in a mine owner looking for assistance from a contract miner. Choosing the right contracting strategy can be something of a mine-field (see what I did there?), depending not only upon the project objectives the mine owner is trying to achieve. But also, a mix of other considerations such as: operating experience; in house capability (or “bench strength”); resources (people and equipment); attitude to risk; geographic location; and financial capacity – to name just a few. Often the timing around engagement of a mining Contractor is a critical consideration as well.
