MEC Announces New Management Team
MEC is pleased to announce a few key changes to their management team that will have a positive impact on the future direction of the business.
General Manager – David Plowman
The first is the appointment of David Plowman as General Manager. David joined MEC in February 2015 as a Principal Mining Engineer. He is a highly accomplished and versatile mining operations and technical professional with more than 20 years’ experience in the coal, copper and gold mining industries. He has managed successful projects for owner-operators and mine-contracting companies across the globe.
Prior to joining MEC, David held high-level operations and technical positions, including Mining Superintendent at CST Minerals Lady Annie Pty Ltd and Operations Manager and Superintendent Operations Planning at BHP Billiton.
General Manager Strategy and Business Development – Maria Joyce
Previous General Manager Maria Joyce has been appointed as General Manager Strategy and Business Development and will play a pivotal role in the future growth of the business.
For the past 14 years, Maria has worked in various leadership, operational, technical and business improvement roles across the mining industry; both as an owner-operator and consultant. She is an AUSIMM Chartered Professional, Registered Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ) and a Competent Person for various open pit deposits. With expertise in project delivery, scheduling solutions & optimization, business improvement & process efficiency, she has successfully led teams and mining studies both domestically and internationally.
Maria is very passionate about building diverse and inclusive work places and in early 2017 became the Committee Chair for the Women in Mining and Resources Queensland (WIMARQ) and a Queensland committee representative for Women in Mining Network (WIMnet).
Chief Financial Officer – Julia Kouba
Julia Kouba has been promoted to the role of Chief Financial Officer. Julia joined MEC in April 2012, armed with a dual degree in Bachelor of Business (Accounting) and Bachelor of Laws, CPA. She contributes over 12 years’ finance and accounting experience to the business and is charged with MEC’s finance, contract negotiations and strategic direction.
